Are there any reservations about laser treatments?
In laser treatments, the laser beam operates only on the cornea, that is, the outermost layer of the eye.
It does not enter the eye and is harmless.
No blindness is seen after laser.
As of today LASIK has been applied in the world for nearly 35 years.
Its reliability and quality in human health has been approved by independent and official bodies (FDA) in the world.
Do I have to wear eye glasses/contact lenses again ?
With specialised treatment for each patient this is rarely an issue.
How do iLasik Treatments work ?
Intralase Lasik Excimer Laser is used to treat visual defects such as myopia, hypermetropia and astigmatism in refractive surgery.
Laser Eye Surgery Turkey
Lasik in istanbul sounds great but How does it work ?
Measurement of visual Dynamics and examination
Like the fingerprint, the structure of the cornea (the transparent part of the eye) differs from person to person. First, A 3D map of visual defects is detected with the aid of a wavefront analysis so your treatment will be tailored spesifically for your needs. After the necessary tests with wavefront, pachmetry and examination. Your treatment can start. This is standard procedure for every laser eye surgery in istanbul.
Superficial treatment (No Touch Laser – PRK-LASEK)
With the PRK technique, corneal epithelium, which is the foremost transparent layer of the eye is removed with diluted alcohol .Epithelial tissue heals itself in 3-5 days. Laser is applied afterwards to the cornea. This is the first generation of laser eye treatment. Epithelial tissue heals itself in 4-5 days Recovery takes longer and it is not as comfortable as ilasik or relex smile method. It is not used very often nowadays due to longer healing time and not being one of the latest methods. However in some cases your doctor might recommend you this method if there are no other methods available for you.
İLasik (Femto Lasik) Surgery with a corneal flap
The doctor will numb your eyes with eye drops.
The eye area is wiped and covered with sterilized drape.
To prevent any blinking, the eyelids are opened with a tool called “Blepharostat”.
Preparation of a thin flap on the cornea (with knife or laser depending on the treatment choice)
The flap is opened like a door. A new shape is given to the cornea by applying a laser.
Your doctor will close the flap. No stitches necessary.
Antibiotic drops will be applied to the eye.
Blepharostat is removed and the process is terminated.
Femtosecond laser technology, has the following features:
– Surgery is fast
– Thanks to femto laser, creation and preservation of corneal flap is easier and safer.
– It is possible to correct astigmatism.
– Treatment can be possible for people with thinner corneas
-Combined with wave front analysis ilasik (femto lasik) is seen as the most advanced lasik method.
Personal Excimer Laser treatment
The treatment with Intralase Lasik, which has decades of history, is defined as the 2th generation of refractive surgery due to its innovative features. This method is also known as the appropriate treatment method for astronauts and fighter pilots by NASA and the United States Army. It conveys the highest level of visual acuity.
With Intralase(femto lasik), the corneal flap is made completely computerized laser and without the use of a knife.
What are the differences between Lasik and Intra Lasik(Femto Lasik) methods?
Lasik method is performed with an automatic blade called microceratome The Intralase Lasik method on the other hand is performed with a femtosecond laser, corneal flap is made with femto second laser, the treatment is completely tailored for the eye structure of the person. The creation of corneal flap operation is performed in 30 seconds is descended to Intralase Lasik for 10 seconds. Lasik is done very rarely if there is a femto lasik machine is available and the patient is eligible for the operation
Why Intra Lasik? (iLasik)
The operation is safer with precision laser. Patients with thinner cornea can be treated. It can be applied to patients with higher vision defects. Astigmatic correction is provided. Complications risk is very low.
For what other diseases is this treatment used?
Intralase femtosecond laser is also used in cerathoplasty and preparation for rings used in ceratoconus treatment.
What is Relex Smile(Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) Technique ?
ReLEx SMILE; As the third generation of laser therapy, ReLEx SMILE is a method used for myopia (up to -10) and astigmatism (up to -5) without usage of knife its painless, closed system (without tissue lifting). After the treatment, the patient can resume his/her life in a short time.
With smile technique, the cornea tissue is not cut and there is no need for a flap.
Your doctor will apply Femtosecond laser to the cornea to create a disc-like tissue layer inside the cornea.
The created disc is taken out of a small laser incision.
This technique is particularly advantageous for patients who are likely to be exposed to mechanical trauma, such as athletes, firefighters, police and soldiers, as this causes less weakening of the corneas mechanical strength.
LASIK requires a larger opening (a flap) so that the excimer laser can reshape the underlying cornea. The SMILE method requires only a very small opening (often less than 4 mm) to remove the lenticule(layer of tissue crated under the cornea with laser)
With SMILE procedure, the surgeon uses a femtosecond laser to create a small, piece of tissue (lenticule) under the cornea. Then a small arc-shaped incision is made in the surface of the cornea with the same laser and the surgeon extracts the lens through this incision. Afterwards tiny lenticule is removed by the surgeon, the shape of the cornea changes this improves the way light rays are directed onto the retina which corrects patients eyesight. The corneal incision heals within a few days without any sutures and sharp vision reappears very quickly.
SMILE is an approved method by the FDA for the treatment of myopia.T he procedure usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
How does it work?
Your doctor will program the laser with specific measurements for your eye.
Eyes are numbed with eye drops.
Your eye surgeon will place an eyelid lock (Blepharostat) on your eye to keep you from blinking.
·A suction ring lifts and flattens the cornea and prevents the eye from moving.
The laser forms a disc-shaped piece of cornea under the surface of your cornea. This is the “lenticule” that gives the operation its name.( Small Incision Lenticule Extraction)
The laser then makes a small incision to your cornea. This gives your surgeon access to the laser-formed lenticule. The entire laser treatment takes about 30 seconds.
Your surgeon removes the disc-shaped piece of cornea through the incision. This reshapes your cornea correcting the eye-sight
Advantages of SMILE
SMILE is a new refractive surgery. Its the latest generation of laser eye surgeries.
No corneal flap is necessary with SMILE. Therefore, in contrast to LASIK, there is zero risk regarding corneal flap problems.
Doctor will remove lenticule through a very small incision. Due to minimal intervention on the surface of the cornea, dryness of the eye occurs less frequently, fewer corneal nerves are affected owing to usage of a small incision instead of a bigger corneal flap.
The small SMILE incision can also allow the cornea to show more biomechanical stability after the procedure.
What makes a good Relex SMILE candidate?
If you have an active lifestyle or profession, SMILE may be a better option for you than LASIK or similar procedures. This is because SMILE does not require a flap like LASIK. If you are very active, you could accidentally move this flap, which can cause problems.(a very rare problem)
For a SMILE treatment, you have to meet certain requirements. Some of them are:
You should be of legal age.(18 or above)
Your visual acuity should not have changed in the last year
You should have a nearsightedness sphere of the following values: -0.50 to -10.00 diopters, cylinders: 0 to 5.00 diopters
Your cornea’s general eye health must be fine
You have to have realistic expectations from the method.
